Young Children Priority One

Young Children Priority One (YCPO) is an ongoing service program of Kiwanis International and local clubs like Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg. This program addresses the needs of young children. Each club is encouraged to carry out one to two YCPO projects each calendar year.

We are proud to say that the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg initiated a project over 10 years ago called READING IS FUNdamental. Kiwanians and members of our community volunteer their time to read books to approximately 150 Head Start children, ages 3-4 years old in James River Elementary, The Historic Triangle Center and Norge Elementary. Each child receives a copy of the book that is read each week for their personal library. Spanish speaking children receive a copy of a book written in Spanish.

These books are provided by the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg.
