Serving the Children of the World
The Foundation is a non-stock corporation chartered under the laws of Virginia and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit charitable organization under the provisions of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Service Code.
The Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg Foundation is an independent organization separate from the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg. All Club members are automatically members of the Foundation. The Foundation Board of Directors is made up of 10 active club members some having served as past presidents of the Club and some are Club members who have been instrumental in support of the foundation. The Foundation Board of Directors are elected to four-year terms by the members of the Club at an annual meeting of the Club with terms staggered every two years. The officers of the Foundation are elected from within the Foundation Board of Directors at the Foundation board meeting following the election of board members. The Foundation board meetings are held on a quarterly basis.
The Foundation’s primary purpose is to provide financial support for the most pressing needs in the greater Williamsburg area community with a primary focus on young people. Grants are funded to 501(c)3 organizations that partner with the Club’s fundraising activities. The mission of the organizations that are chosen by the Club and Foundation on an annual basis include live saving, life preserving and life enhancing for the children of the community.
Funds received by the Foundation include:
A large portion of annual donations are made in support of the Foundation’s annual Wilbur Davis Smiles for Kids Program. This program is in partnership with Busch Gardens and provides a one day pass to local children and family members who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access and enjoy the park.
Several levels of recognition are available and are maintained by the Foundation. Gifts received for all of the recognition levels are considered gifts to endowment and the funds are invested and are overseen by an Investment Committee appointed by the Board of Directors. Contributions continue to support Foundation activities year after year.
Membership in the President’s Club is accorded to Kiwanians in whose name one-time or cumulative contributions reach a minimum total of $7,500 – $9,999. President’s Club honorees receive an engraved plaque and their names are displayed on the Foundation Honors Board which is frequently displayed at Club meetings.
Membership in the President’s Club is accorded to Kiwanians in whose name one-time or cumulative contributions reach a minimum total of $5,000 – $7,499. President’s Club honorees receive an engraved plaque and their names are displayed on the Foundation Honors Board which is frequently displayed at Club meetings.
Membership in the President’s Club is accorded to Kiwanians in whose name one-time or cumulative contributions reach a minimum total of $1,000. President’s Club honorees receive an engraved plaque and their names are displayed on the Foundation Honors Board which is frequently displayed at Club meetings. In addition, special name tags to be worn at regular Club meetings are provided for members of the President’s Club.
Life Membership is granted to Kiwanians when single or cumulative contributions total at least $500. Life Members receive a framed certificate and their names are mounted on the Foundation Honors Board.
The Builder level is accorded to Kiwanians when contributions in his or her name reach at least $200. Builder’s names are also included on the Foundation Honors Board.
From the Foundation’s humble beginnings, the Foundation wishes to thank all of the past contributors and we are proud to report that the corpus has grown to over $700,000. The Foundation has been able to serve the children and community with contributions to 501(c)3 organizations totaling over $200,000.
Current foundation officers include Geoff Suter, President; Rick Overy, Vice President; Doug Holroyd, Treasurer and Antonija Simpson, Secretary. Current board members are Leigh Houghland, Tom Connor, Ron Adolphi, Rolf Kramer, Howard Price, Missy Zimmerman, and David Bush.
